The anyway rather wet coast line to hana got a lot of rain the night before our trip. The waterfalls were pumping and instead of swimming in the clear freshwater pools, we had to stay out of the water and beware of the strong current. As lucky we were on the first day with the weather, the second day was heavy rain all morning, forcing us having breakfast in the van…. we also had to skip the hike along the Pipiway stream through the bamboo forest to the huge waterfall.

Maui’s best Beach
Big Beach (Makena Beach / Oneloa Beach) on Maui’s South Shore is rated as #1 beach here on Maui – the sandy beach is huge and the crystal clear water invites for endless playing in the shore break. Additional informations at mauiguidebook.com or mauiinformationguid.com.
On the drive back through Kihei, treat yourself with an ice cream at Cold Stone. Just take the exit Piikea Ave on the Piilani Hwy and turn right into the Piilani Village Shopping Center – You will not regret!
Short trip to Lahaina – in the end, you need lots of surf shorts here and Lahaina has an endless selection. The town hasn’t really changed over the last years. Still charming and mellow, just a few beauty spa salons have popped up – which is a little weird.
A drink at Kimo’s beachfront restaurant is always an experience. Quick stop on the way back taking a picture of the West Maui Mountain view and buying some fruits.
